Everyday Musings, Inspiration

Today, while talking to my father, I casually brought up the fact that someone had texted me trying to get his number.  I told him I didn’t recognize the name or number but they said they needed to get in touch with him.

“Oh yeah, he exclaimed.  That was my friend.  You know her.  She lived her for a while.  She’s really sick.  They think she’s going to die soon. She wanted me to take her some of her things. She told me you were really mean to her…”

My mind quickly raced back to the text I sent.  “I don’t know his new number. I haven’t talked to him in a while and I now live in Texas.”  Short, abrupt and rude to someone who just needed something so little that meant so much.

I quickly stammered out excuses.  “I’m sorry, I didn’t know who it was and I was at work trying to do something at the same time while she kept texting me.”

It didn’t matter. The damage was already done.

“Yeah I told her you were probably busy,” my dad answered.  “She was like I didn’t know Kayla was like that…”

Like that? Like what? And then it hit me…Cruel. Thats my new label from her. And she never even deserved it.

Be kinder than neccessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.” ― T.H. Thompson and John Watson

Just because things may not be going the way you want them to go, don’t take it out on others.  The time it takes to be nice is incomparable to the haunting that can come from haunting that comes from damaging someone already in a frail place. Take it from me.  I call it a lesson learned…
