Inspiration

While sitting outside at a barbecue, an older gentleman turned to me and started talking about his life.  He was telling me how his past relationship had gone wrong and he was at a place in his life where it seemed like nothing was working out.  Then he said, “I had to change my latitude, my longitude, and more importantly my attitude!”

This really stuck with me.  I thought about how sometimes in life, if you want a change you have to change your surroundings.  There may be people who are harming your lifestyle that you have to let go.  Your job may be more stress than relief, and you have to make a career change.  Those things that you had counted on happening may fall through, and you have to regroup and start anew.  Such is life, and you can’t be afraid of it. You have to learn to not be complacent, but acceptable and flexible for the change.

The great Marilyn Monroe said, ” I believe everything happens for a reason.  People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they’re right, you believe lies so you’ll eventually learn to trust no one but your yourself, and some times good things fall apart so better things can fall together.”

This has always been my philosophy for life, and for accepting things that are different from my plan.  It’s also where the attitude comes in. Instead of cursing the bad, you chalk it up as a lesson learned and truly know that things will get better.  You can’t just see the silver lining, but you have to believe in the silver lining when it is clouded in the distance.  Once you stop harping on the bad, the good begins to roll in because you have eyes to see and appreciate it.

I can’t say that things will become perfect, because it never will be.  However, with the right attitude you will be equipped to handle them as they come.  And more importantly, you will have all the tools to get through it.
